This
painting was created by to mark the beginning of
a non-profit run across the US raising funds to
help charities supporting bereaved children in the
aftermath of 9/11.
Runner, and ex-army commando, Mark Llewhellin from
Wales UK, who asked me if I could help in some way
to promote his run, planned to take on the mammoth
task in order to raise millions of dollars for charity.
Running 20,000 miles with his Siberian husky called
Hope, the run was to be the longest ever undertaken
in the US (and part of Canada) taking around two
and a half years to complete. The event had aptly
been called 'The Run of Hope'.
The 28 year old runner, with his dog, hoped to cover
the equivalent distance of more than 5 marathons
every week taking in 48 US states and 6 Canadian
provinces. The run was originally planned to raise
money solely for children with life-threatening
illnesses.
Mark had already broken the 100 km treadmill world
record, completed the notorious Sahara Desert Run
and had also ran 1,600 miles in 60 days, from Colorado
to California.
Mark had said: "I wanted a dog for company,
who would be up for the challenge and enjoy herself.
The only problem is that she starts to flag in the
hot weather. When it comes to running through the
southern states she will travel in an air-conditioned
car, which is part of the support team."
Hope's wellbeing was of primary importance to Mark
who had special running shoes made for her to protect
her paws.
The organising of the run unfortunately ran into
difficulties and was postponed. However I'm proud
to have be part of the project and am happy to now
have the painting of Hope with the World Trade Centre
in my portfolio of work. |
